The autumn assessment of the broodstock of sturgeon, common fish, and paddlefish has been completed at the Volga-Caspian Research and Experimental Aquaculture Complex of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO). Most of the sturgeon specimens are kept in the unique scientific facility "VNIRO Bioresource Collection of Aquatic Bioresources."
On December 2, a meeting on the conservation and restoration of aquatic bioresources in the Sea of ​​Azov basin was held under the chairmanship of Rostov Region Governor Yuri Slyusar. Representatives of the Rostov Region government, the scientific community, and business participated in the event.

The Pacific walrus is migrating further north

November 24th marked Walrus Day in Russia. This annual holiday was established in 2008 to remind people of the need to respect these pinnipeds.
The Russian Geographical Society's international educational campaign, "Geographical Dictation," will be held for the eleventh time in 2025.
At an extended meeting of the Academic Council of the Pacific Branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) on December 1, dissertation topics, supervisors, and individual work plans were approved for first-year graduate students at the branch.
Over the past three years, the Atlantic Branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) has been releasing juvenile whitefish into the Curonian Lagoon of the Baltic Sea, both to compensate for damage caused by the economic activities of construction and reclamation organizations in the region and to replenish the natural population of this valuable commercial species, preserving the water body's biodiversity, stabilizing the whitefish population, and ensuring sustainable fisheries.
In recent years, there has been a steady increase in aquaculture production, with new aquaculture species—various fish and invertebrate species—becoming increasingly popular. Among the latter, crayfish are of particular interest, enjoying a relatively high consumer demand in Russia.
At the beginning of the third ten-day period of November, the First APEC Ocean Resilience Conference was held in Busan, Republic of Korea.
On November 28, the Far Eastern Basin Scientific and Fisheries Council (FESC) held its regular meeting in Khabarovsk, chaired by Ilya Shestakov, head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries. The meeting summarized the results of the 2025 salmon run.
