An assessment of the state of aquatic bioresources during the spring freeze-up period on brackish lakes in the Altai Territory was carried out

From March 17 to 21, employees of the Altai branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) traveled to brackish lakes in the Altai Territory to assess the state of aquatic bioresources during the spring freeze-up.

During the business trip, 9 water bodies in 7 administrative districts were surveyed, including: 3 water bodies (lakes: Bulatovo, Tomskoye, Korostelevskoye) as part of monitoring aquatic biological resources, 6 water bodies (lakes: Bolshoe Utichye, Gorkoye, Bogatskoye, Bolshiye Tabuny, Markovskoye, Maloe Gorkoye) as part of reconnaissance studies of potentially commercial water bodies.

During the data collection, the following environmental parameters were measured: snow cover thickness, ice thickness, water temperature, water salinity, oxygen dissolved in water, hydrogen index (pH). The snow cover thickness on the lakes varied from 0 to 30 cm. The ice thickness was within 50-70 cm.

A deficiency of dissolved oxygen in water was noted on some lakes (the readings on the thermooxymeter tended to zero - 0.2 - 0.5 mg / dm3).

To assess the distribution of invertebrates in the water column, samples were taken with a Judy plankton net by pulling from the bottom to the surface. Soil samples were collected with a Zabolotsky bottom grab.

Samples were taken from 6 reservoirs with a mormysh trough to assess the distribution of gammarids near the lower surface of the ice. At the time of survey, gammarids were absent from 3 water bodies (Bogatskoye, Markovskoye, Maloe Gorkoye) when sampling with various fishing gear.

Based on the results of the trip, all the collected material was delivered to the branch laboratories for further office processing.
