In the third ten days of October, specialists from the Volgograd branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) conducted a trawl survey in the waters of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir on the research vessel “Viktor Klimov”. The study covered 12 sections of the reservoir located within the boundaries of the Volgograd Region.
During the trawl study, the species and sizes of the caught fish were determined, and primary data on the state of the biological resources of the reservoir were collected. In addition, hydrological studies were carried out at the monitoring sites. As part of the expedition, 16 operations were carried out.
The bottom trawl catches recorded 20 species of fish, among which bream, crucian carp and pike perch predominated. In one of the areas, specialists established the presence of fish species listed in the Red Books of the Volgograd Region and the Russian Federation: the Azov-Black Sea shemaya and the Don sterlet population.
The collected data play a key role in monitoring the reservoir ecosystem and will form the basis for developing recommendations for predicting changes in the populations of commercial fish species, which can contribute to the sustainable management of the water resources of a unique reservoir.
The next stage of the research will be a trawl survey in the Tsimlyansk Reservoir within the boundaries of the Rostov Region.
