At EcoDay, as a guest expert, an institute specialist showed how to check the quality of drinking water, and most of the physicochemical indicators can be determined even at home. The research was carried out together with high school students studying chemical and biological sciences in depth.
For the experiments, we took several samples: water from the tap, from a well, purified with a home filter, and for bottling from city water dispensers. The main testing criteria were the degree of mineralization, pH value, hardness, content of chloride ions, sulfate ions, detection of hydrogen sulfide and organic substances. According to the research results, all samples passed the test, but for some of them the maximum permissible concentrations were on the verge of permissible.
The experiments carried out aroused keen interest among the children, and the simplicity of their implementation surprised them. The high school students took the advice they received into account, because water quality affects human health. In addition, its physicochemical parameters are controlled by GOST, so it is important to always pay attention to the composition of what we drink.
The meeting with schoolchildren was organized by the public environmental organization of the Tyumen region “Clean Path”. Branch employees, together with volunteers, regularly conduct eco-lessons, forums and quests for the younger generation. This is how the children acquire new eco-habits and think about their role in nature.
