Employees of the Magadan branch of VNIRO survey remote rivers of the region

Specialists from the laboratory of ecology of fishery reservoirs of the Magadan branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) have begun expeditionary work on the Tumannaya River, one of the tributaries of the Kedon River, which flows in the northeast of the Magadan Region. The expedition consists of 3 employees - Roman Piternov, Andrey Grigorov and Alexey Molchanov.

The research area is characterized by inaccessibility, sparse population and harsh climatic conditions. At the same time, gold deposits are actively being developed here, which creates very specific risks for aquatic biological resources of the rivers located in this territory.

The expedition staff plans to carry out field studies during a rafting trip on boats from the upper reaches of the Tumannaya River, simultaneously examining its main channel and tributaries, collecting ichthyological, hydrobiological and hydrological materials. The expedition is being transported to the starting point with the support of Omolon Gold Mining Company LLC by road and air transport.

After completing the field research and processing the obtained materials, an assessment of the fishery value of the studied water bodies will be made, the category of their fishery value will be updated, the list of fish species living here and data on their habitats in the surveyed water bodies will be systematized.
