Evaluation of production indicators of replacement and broodstock flocks

Spring grading of broodstock stocks of whitefish species has begun at the production sites of the Tyumen branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO).

The first census was conducted at the Kozinsky cage farm in the Sverdlovsk Region. Spring grading is an important stage in the complex of works on artificial reproduction. It is carried out immediately after a long winter and allows us to assess the physiological condition of each individual. The fish are examined, individually counted, and weighed. The census of individuals is carried out in all age groups. Fish farmers monitor how the fish overwintered and whether they are ready for active fattening before the autumn spawning.

The grading, like all key stages of artificial reproduction, was carried out under the supervision of the relevant state commission of the Federal Agency for Fisheries.

The branch's fish farmers began forming replacement broodstocks of whitefish species on the Kozinsky Reservoir in 2018. At that time, the farm consisted of only four cages. Today, the Kozinsky UNP has expanded significantly - such valuable whitefish species as nelma, muksun and chir are grown here. The offspring obtained from the broodstock annually replenish the natural populations of the Ob-Irtysh basin.
