Fishing in the Urals

On February 27, the Ural branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) held the 1st (regional) stage of the VNIRO Amateur Fishing Championship "Fishing for Science". The competition was held on the Glubochny Reservoir (Polevskoy GO).
 
Despite the weather conditions, the branch employees, both experienced and novice amateur fishermen, took part in the competition. Fishing was carried out with winter fishing rods with jigs, bait: raspberries, maggots and gammarus. The participants fought for victory until the very last minutes of the competition. The catch consisted of roach and perch. The winners were the participants who caught the largest amount of fish in weight terms.
 
According to the results of the tournament, the leading specialist of the laboratory of aquatic bioresources Sergey Yalkovsky became the absolute winner, his catch was 2.5 times higher than that of Ivan Kashirin, who opened the scoring and took second place in the last 20 minutes of the competition.
 
The bronze was won from experienced fishermen by the head of the laboratory of aquatic bioresources Natalia Chechulina.
 
The audience sympathy prize was won by the novice fisherman Ekaterina Kichigina - the leading specialist of the laboratory of aquaculture, who caught the first fish and opened the tournament scoring.
 
The event became a bright event in the life of the employees of the branch and served as a basis for team building and sharing experience in their favorite business.
 
The winner of this tournament will take part in the II stage of the Championship.
