Interest in science: volunteers from all over Russia were told about the work of VNIRO

Senior specialist of the fisheries ecology laboratory of the Tyumen branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) Alexander Taskaev gave an educational lecture for the participants of the All-Russian ecological expedition of the Russian Geographical Society "Arctic. General cleaning".
 
At the meeting, the audience learned about the structure of VNIRO, its branches and main tasks. The ichthyologist paid special attention to the role of fisheries science in the management of fish stocks, spoke in detail about the research of the Tyumen branch, which is carried out all year round. The audience learned how and why specialists conduct ichthyological surveys, hydrochemical, hydrobiological and genetic studies of fish, diagnostics of ichthyofauna for parasites. In addition, at a friendly meeting, they discussed the importance of work on artificial reproduction of fish and the role of the Tyumen branch in preserving the biodiversity of the Ob-Irtysh basin.
 
At the lecture, the participants of the ecological expedition were able to see with their own eyes part of the work of each ichthyologist. Alexander Taskaev conducted a visual biological analysis of fish and showed how the collected samples are recorded.
 
The lecture also touched upon employment issues, as well as the opportunities that fisheries science opens up for young specialists and experienced professionals.
 
Such meetings play an important role in popularizing industry science among the population and help attract new interested specialists to the industry.
