Monitoring of industrial fisheries on the Pechora River

From September 7 to October 17, observations of industrial production of aquatic bioresources were conducted in the fishing areas of the Pechora River within the boundaries of the Izhemsky District of the Komi Republic.

The aim of the work was to monitor the fishery and collect data on the biology of whitefish species and Atlantic salmon, allowing to assess the state of their populations, as well as the impact of fishing on aquatic bioresources. Hydrometeorological observations were carried out throughout the entire period of work.

The predominant species in the catches were omul, Siberian vendace and common whitefish. The by-catch included: Atlantic salmon, ide, peled, common pike, river perch, bream, European grayling, roach.

The collected material will be used to assess the number of aquatic bioresources, prepare forecast materials, substantiate the raw material base of fisheries, and develop measures to regulate fisheries.

Thus, fishery industry workers, assisting the scientific organization in collecting data on the fishery, lay the foundation for a balanced use of fish stocks of the Pechora River on a long-term basis with the unconditional preservation of aquatic bioresource populations.

In addition to the main work, an employee of the Northern Branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) held a class hour on professional orientation in the 9th grade of the Kelchiyurskaya Secondary Comprehensive School named after A. F. Smetanin.

The students learned about the main areas of work of VNIRO, about the peculiarities of the work of an ichthyologist, which are associated with long business trips. In practice, they recalled the external structure of fish, identified the species of fish that live in the Pechora, their age, and conducted a biological analysis.
