Monitoring research in Yandova Bay of the Dvina Gulf of the White Sea

Specialists from the Northern Branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) carried out monitoring observations at a complex semi-diurnal station in Yandova Bay of the Dvina Gulf of the White Sea. This area is a natural spawning ground for herring, a feeding ground for juveniles of the main commercial fish species.

During the work, data were collected on temperature, salinity, pH level, oxygen content and biogenic elements in sea water. Water and soil samples were taken to determine the content of pollutants (aluminum, phenol, oil products).

As a result of the initial assessment, it was found that the saturation of surface sea water with oxygen in May was at the level of 100%. In the same period last year, the oxygen content and saturation of sea water in Yandova Bay was lower (on average 76%).

Currently, samples of phyto- and zooplankton, as well as zoobenthos, are undergoing office processing. All information received will be used to assess the state of the habitat of aquatic biological resources.
