Observers from the Polar Branch of VNIRO have completed their work on the ships

Leading specialist of the scientific expedition department of the Polar Branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) Yuri Mullin conducted research on the snow crab opilio on the vessel PK-1654 "Volk Arktiki" in the exclusive economic zone of Russia and the open part of the Barents Sea.

He obtained data on the spatial distribution of crab clusters in the fishing area, their biological state, by-catch of non-commercial males and females, fish and other aquatic organisms.

The research results are necessary for developing forecasts of varying lead times and recommendations for the rational exploitation and effective use of commercial invertebrate stocks in the Barents Sea.

Specialist of the scientific expedition department of the branch Viktor Popov worked as an observer on the commercial fishing trawler M-0341 "Novaya Zemlya" in the NAFO regulation area.

The main objectives were to study the patterns of formation of accumulations, distribution and behavior of commercial fish depending on their biological state, environmental conditions and fishing intensity, study the biological state of other aquatic organisms, parasitological observations, analysis of the distribution of marine mammals, collection of statistics on the state of the raw material base.

The results obtained will be used to clarify the state of bottom fish stocks in the NAFO RR, determine the TAC and in forecasts of varying lead times, to prepare materials for the NEAFC, NAFO Working Groups, and to protect the interests of the Russian fishing industry at the international level.
