Research in the Transbaikal Territory and the Republic of Buryatia

In June-July of this year, specialists from the Baikal branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) conducted comprehensive studies to assess the abundance and biomass of commercial fish stocks and food supply in the Trans-Baikal Territory on the Shakshinskoye, Tasey lakes and on the Onon River (Amur basin), as well as in the Republic of Buryatia on the Bolshoy Eravnoye and Khorg lakes.

Standard hydrobiological and ichthyological studies were conducted on all water bodies, and the impact of amateur fishing and trade was assessed.

Students from the Biology Department of the Kuban State University and the Buryat State Agricultural Academy completed their field practice as part of the scientific team. The students mastered the basic methods of collecting scientific material in the field.

The data obtained will supplement the long-term statistics on monitoring the water systems of the regions.
