Using a Manta net (335 µm), water samples were collected to detect microplastic content throughout the entire water area of the reservoirs, including their central part, the mouths of large rivers, as well as sections of the reservoirs located in close proximity to populated areas. The collected samples were delivered to the laboratory of the Central Institute for further processing.
In addition, as part of the research to assess microplastic pollution of marine and freshwater ecosystems in domestic fishing areas, the Vologda branch of VNIRO will collect gastrointestinal tracts of commercial fish (river perch, bream) in the summer of 2025 on the Beloye and Kubenskoye lakes. In the future, this will allow a more detailed assessment of the level of microplastic pollution of both abiotic and biotic components of the aquatic environment.
