Research of spawning grounds of Lake Zhizhitskoe

Specialists from the Pskov branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) conducted a study of the state of the spawning grounds of Lake Zhizhitskoye in the Kuninsky District of the Pskov Region in late July - early August of this year in order to assess the effectiveness of natural spawning.

Lake Zhizhitskoye, located in the southeastern part of the Pskov Region, is the second largest and most fish-producing lake (after Lake Peipus) among all small reservoirs of the Pskov Region. Its water area is about 52 square kilometers.

The effectiveness of fish reproduction was assessed based on scientific research fishing for juveniles with a fry seine on a set of stationary stations covering almost the entire littoral part of the lake.

The results of the study will allow us to assess the effectiveness of reproduction and the main commercial fish species in the reservoir.
