Research on Siberian sturgeon of the Lena River

In July of this year, the research of Siberian sturgeon in the lower reaches of the Lena River was completed. The research was conducted by two scientific groups, which included specialists from the Central Institute and the Yakut branch of the Russian State Research Center "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO).

The first group carried out work in the Zhigansky District, the second group - in the Tit-Ary section of the Bulunsky District.

The purpose of the research work was to conduct observations of the intensity of migrations, the qualitative structure of sturgeon producers during the spawning run. During the work, a full biological analysis was carried out on some of the selected sturgeon individuals, including sampling to determine age, histological and molecular genetic studies.

The data obtained will be used to assess the current state of the Siberian sturgeon population of the Lena River and to develop recommendations for the rational use of its reserves and artificial reproduction.
