Research on the Taz River

Specialists from the Tyumen branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) are completing the collection of ichthyological and hydrobiological material on the Taz River to assess the spawning run of whitefish and stocks of small fish species.

Comprehensive studies in the river's waters have been going on for three weeks already, scientists are collecting hydrobiological samples - zooplankton and zoobenthos, monitoring the hydrological regime and distribution of fish in the floodplain-sor system and the Taz River bed. They are conducting control catches, performing mass measurements of individuals and biological analysis to determine the size and age structure of populations.

The Taz River is the second largest river in Western Siberia, its length is over 1,400 km. It plays an important role in the formation of stocks of valuable Siberian fish species, the reproduction of peled, whitefish and broad whitefish occurs here.

After processing the data, scientists will determine the state of aquatic bioresources and give recommendations on their catch. In addition, analysis of fish, hydrobionts and water samples will provide reliable information on the state of fish populations and their habitat.
