Research work was carried out in the Dvina Bay of the White Sea

In the period from November 27 to December 23, 2024, in the Unskaya Bay of the Dvina Gulf of the White Sea (Arkhangelsk Region), specialists from the Northern Branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) conducted research work to monitor the state of navaga stocks during winter fishing in pre-spawning aggregations.

The navaga fishery in the 2024-2025 fishing season began at the mouth of the Una River at the usual time - in open water from the end of October. The most powerful approaches were recorded at the end of November and in mid-December 2024. Two-year-old navaga individuals predominated in the catches.

In addition to navaga, the White Sea herring fishery was carried out in the Unskaya Bay. Herring approaches were recorded only during spring tides and high water levels due to strong wind surges, with catches amounting to 500 kg/seine/day. The rest of the time, herring were not in the fishing gear.

Single specimens of Arctic and river flounder, Asian smelt, and four-horned goby were also noted in the by-catch.

The collected material will be used to assess the abundance of aquatic bioresources, prepare forecast materials, substantiate the raw material base of fisheries, and develop measures to regulate fisheries.
