Science is the engine of progress!

February 8 is traditionally celebrated as Russian Science Day. The date was not chosen by chance - on this day, by decree of Peter I in 1724, the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) was founded - the leading scientific center of the country.

This date is of great importance for everyone associated with the scientific activity of the country, and unites everyone who devoted themselves to research and finding new solutions. Among them is the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO), a key institution in fisheries science.

Today, fisheries and academic sciences have entered a new stage of cooperation. Since the signing of a cooperation agreement between VNIRO and the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2018 between the Federal Fisheries Agency and the Russian Academy of Sciences, a real breakthrough has occurred.

Over the past few years, several joint projects have been implemented, a significant amount of data has been collected and combined.

Joint research work of VNIRO and institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences is focused on solving priority scientific problems in the field of maintaining an ecological balance between the state of the natural resource base of Russia and the level of its economic use.

Large-scale expeditionary work was carried out to study the seas of the Siberian Arctic, study the biodiversity of deep-sea ecosystems in the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean, assess the state of the marine environment, the structure, productivity and functional parameters of the Kara Basin ecosystem. Every year the geography of scientific work and the number of scientists included in it expands.

In 2020 and 2023 As a result of the joint work of scientists from VNIRO and the Russian Academy of Sciences, the publishing house VNIRO prepared and published two issues of the periodical scientific journal “Proceedings of VNIRO” (volume 181 and volume 193), which included scientific publications about the research carried out.
