Spring expedition to monitor aquatic biological resources

Employees of the Tatar branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) conducted a research expedition on the m/v “Vladimir Uskov” in the Kuibyshev and Nizhnekamsk reservoirs from May 15 to June 12.

The main objectives of the expedition were to measure hydrobiological and hydrochemical parameters, as well as collect hydrobiological and ichthyological materials in the Kuibyshev and Nizhnekamsk reservoirs.

According to the results of the expedition to the Kuibyshev Reservoir, benthic surveys were dominated by bream, silver bream, roach and pike perch. The dominant position in the catches of pelagic surveys was occupied by sprat. In the benthal of the Nizhnekamsk reservoir: bream and silver bream. In the pelagic zone of the Nizhnekamsk reservoir: sprat.

In the course of hydrobiological work, samples of phytoplankton, zooplankton and zoobenthos were collected along a standard network of sections in the Kuibyshev and Nizhnekamsk reservoirs, the total number of which was 217 samples. Also, at each station, hydrological (current speed, transparency, depths, etc.) and hydrochemical (oxygen content at the surface and in the bottom layer of water, etc.) indicators were determined.

The collected material for further office processing was delivered to the branch laboratories.
