Summer research on the Iriklinskoye reservoir and small water bodies of the Samara and Orenburg regions

As part of the State assignment, from August 1 to 9, employees of the Saratov branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) conducted comprehensive studies at the Iriklinskoye Reservoir and small water bodies in the Samara and Orenburg regions.

During the work, hydrochemical, hydrobiological and ichthyological samples were collected in order to determine the stocks of aquatic biological resources (ABR) and the characteristics of their habitat in the summer.

In addition to industrial fishing, amateur (recreational) fishing is also carried out at the Iriklinskoye Reservoir. This reservoir is the largest reservoir in the Orenburg region. To assess the impact of amateur fishing on ABR, it is extremely important to determine the volume of removal by this type of fishing, which can be done quite correctly based on attendance data, fishing duration and catch per unit of time. Preliminary results show that the catch by amateur fishermen is ¼ of the industrial fish catch.

The data obtained will form the basis for determining the total allowable catch and recommended catch of aquatic biological resources for 2026.
