The atlas-identifier "Cyclostomes and fishes of fresh and oligohaline waters of Sakhalin Island" has been published

The long-term work of several generations of scientists from the Sakhalin branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO), as well as students of the Sakhalin State University, is embodied in this full-fledged monograph.

It summarizes the complex of information about cyclostomes and fish inhabiting fresh and oligohaline water bodies of Sakhalin Island, including anadromous and semi-anadromous fish. It presents descriptions of the morphology, distribution and biological features of 94 species of cyclostomes (Petromyzonti) and ray-finned fish (Actinopteri).

The book is based mainly on the results of faunistic and systematic studies by S. N. Safronov, his followers from 1974 to the present in various areas of Sakhalin Island. Colleagues dedicated this work to his blessed memory.

Photographs of many fish species were taken in situ underwater over the past twenty years by Doctor of Biological Sciences, Leading Researcher of the Salmon Fish Laboratory V. S. Labay and Candidate of Biological Sciences, Leading Researcher of the Hydrobiology Laboratory of the Sakhalin Branch D. S. Zavarzin.

The drawings were made by V. S. Labay using the technique of "graphics and watercolors" from live or freshly caught fish, preserving the color and proportions of the body.

The atlas is intended for ichthyologists, students and postgraduates of biological and agricultural universities, school teachers, professional fishermen, fishing enthusiasts and a wide range of readers.
