The spawning campaign for beluga producers has started at the NEKA "BIOS" of the Volga-Caspian branch of VNIRO

At the end of March 2025, the spawning campaign for beluga producers, which are part of the Unique Scientific Facility "Bioresource Collection of VBR" of VNIRO, was launched at the Scientific and Experimental Aquaculture Complex "BIOS" of the Volga-Caspian Branch of the State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO). This work is aimed at obtaining viable offspring of a valuable fish species and its release into the natural habitat within the framework of the State assignment for the purpose of artificial reproduction.

All technological processes in the early stages are carried out in a closed water supply facility, in which an optimal thermal regime is created for pre-spawning maintenance of producers, incubation of eggs and obtaining prelarvae.

Domesticated (domesticated, from the broodstock of the NEKA "BIOS") and natural population-prepared beluga producers were brought to the spawning regime, from which the gametes were then obtained during their lifetime: eggs and sperm for fish-breeding purposes. The weight of individuals ranged from 100 to 160 kg.

After carrying out fish-breeding manipulations for fertilization, based on recommendations for the genetic selection of parent groups, and de-gluing of oocytes, the beluga eggs were placed in the inserts of the "Osetr" apparatus for incubation. During the incubation period, daily monitoring of the course of embryogenesis, as well as the hydrochemical and hydrological parameters of the water in the incubation system is carried out.
