The VNIRO Championship "Fishing for Science" has started in 2025

On February 20, the 1st regional stage of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) Amateur Fishing Championship “Fishing for Science” was held in Sakhalin.

Specialists from the Sakhalin branch competed in catching Far Eastern navaga on the Naiba River. Everyone had an excellent bite. The fish were coming in well, and the participants were very close to winning.

The competition initially assumes a winner. Athletes are sometimes separated from victory by fractions of a second, and for fishermen - by grams. As expected, the most experienced and lucky fisherman will win.

Alexander Prokhorov, a leading researcher at the laboratory of marine and freshwater fish, won 1st place. In just half an hour, he caught 5 kg 500 g of navaga. Second place went to Ekaterina Akhmadeeva, a specialist in the salmon fish laboratory, with a catch of 5 kg 450 g. The top three was rounded out by Denis Chikulaev, weighing 4 kg 50 g.

The winner will go to the second stage of the VNIRO Championship in the Far Eastern Basin.
