The Volgograd branch of VNIRO celebrated Volga Day

On May 20, Russia celebrates Volga Day, established in 2008 at the initiative of UNESCO in order to draw attention to the problem of preserving the river, which is a national treasure of the country and a valuable natural resource. This day is celebrated annually in all Volga regions.

As part of the celebration of Volga Day, employees of the Volgograd branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) conducted an environmental lecture-excursion “Volga: history and ecology of the great river” for students of the Department of Biology and Bioengineering of the Institute of Natural Sciences of Volgograd State University.

The children listened to fascinating, voluminous material about the geological history and modern ecology of the Volga, its rich flora and fauna, and modern measures to preserve the water resources and biological diversity of the river.
