The Vologda branch of VNIRO continues collecting ichthyological material

From January 21 to February 7, researchers and specialists from the Vologda branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) made 4 trips to Beloye, Kubenskoye, Vozhe lakes and the Sheksninskoye reservoir to collect ichthyological material at fish collection points.

Fishermen catch fish using fixed nets of different mesh sizes. Bream, pike perch and pike predominate in catches with large-mesh nets in all large reservoirs. Sabrefish, roach and perch predominate in catches with small-mesh nets in Lake Beloye, and sabrefish, blue bream and white bream predominate in catches with small-mesh nets in the Sheksninskoye reservoir.

Ichthyological material was collected for 14 fish species, including more than 6,600 specimens for mass measurement and more than 3,000 specimens for determining the age of the fish.

The collected ichthyological material is being processed in the office. The data obtained will be used to assess the state of commercial fish stocks and to develop a forecast of total allowable catches and recommended volumes of production (catch) for subsequent years in large lakes of the Vologda Region.
