VNIRO at a conference in Petrozavodsk

The Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO), with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Republic of Karelia, held the Conference "Aquaculture of Karelia. Looking Beyond the Horizon" on February 27 in Petrozavodsk.
 
The event featured leading scientists from VNIRO and invited guests. The topics covered included disease prevention, selection and genetics of salmon fish, engineering of RAS systems, scientific support for fish farms and alternative aquaculture facilities that are promising for cultivation in cage farms. The round table also included a discussion of the results of industrial use of VNIRO compound feed in 2024, which is produced at the Aquarex plant (Melkom Group), and a preventive line of compound feed for trout for work in 2025.
 
The event was attended by over 90 participants, including representatives of the largest fish farms in the North-West of Russia, the feed industry, executive authorities and universities. A lively discussion took place on all the issues outlined, additional areas of cooperation between fish farms of the Republic of Karelia and VNIRO branches in the field of aquaculture and ecology of the region were outlined.
 
As part of the conference, VNIRO employees visited the smolt plant of PAO Inarktika in Kondopoga, the fry shop of OOO Fedorenko N.V., and the extruded feed plant Aqua Feed, which is scheduled to be launched in 2025. Negotiations on cooperation were held at these enterprises and ways of cooperation in the field of aquaculture were outlined.
