The next stage of transportation of belugas from the Srednyaya Bay and release into the sea of Okhotsk is planned for the next week. Transportation will be done using a research vessel of VNIRO.
Belugas, the number of which is now being specified, will be overloaded from the sea pens in the Srednyaya Bay to the transportation tanks installed on the vessel deck. The vessel will proceed to the Sakhalin Bay, where all animals will be released. The road will take 3-4 days. Scientists from the Pacific branch of VNIRO and veterinarians will accompany belugas during the voyage and ensure their safe release into the sea.
Recall that transportation of 14 belugas by sea from the Srednyaya Bay to the Sakhalin Bay was first completed on October 2, 2019. Transportation by sea, as well as the land route, have shown their safety for the health of marine mammals. The plans is to release all the animals from the Srednyaya Bay before the onset of winter.
