VNIRO continues research into valuable ichthyofauna of Lake Baikal

Specialists from the Tyumen and Baikal branches of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) conducted an expedition to Lake Baikal and fish farms in the Republic of Buryatia.
 
The objects of study of fisheries science were omul, whitefish, grayling, carp, sturgeon, roach, perch and dace. The specialists selected ichthyological material for molecular genetic studies and assessed the epizootic state at fish farms in the region.
 
Material was also collected to replenish the genetic database of the ichthyofauna of the Baikal fishery basin. Its formation allows us to study the genetic structure of species.
 
During the office processing, scientists from the Tyumen branch will conduct diagnostics of viral, bacterial, mycotic and parasitic diseases of fish.
 
The scientific expedition was conducted within the framework of the federal project "Preservation of Lake Baikal".
