VNIRO intensifies Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of fisheries and aquaculture

A meeting dedicated to strengthening and expanding Russian-Chinese cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture was held at the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO). The meeting was chaired by VNIRO Director, Doctor of Economics Kirill Kolonchin.

A detailed action plan was developed during the meeting aimed at intensifying interaction between Russian and Chinese scientific and educational organizations. The meeting participants identified a number of the most promising areas of cooperation, which include:

  • Participation in congress and exhibition events. Joint participation in key industry exhibitions and congresses will allow us to present the latest developments and achievements in fisheries and aquaculture, as well as establish new business contacts.
  • Exchange of scientific information. Active exchange of research results, publications and databases will contribute to the development of innovations and improve the efficiency of scientists in both countries.
  • Organization of training for Chinese postgraduate students. VNIRO is ready to accept Chinese postgraduate students for training in the most popular areas of research in the field of fisheries and aquaculture, which will help prepare highly qualified personnel for the development of the industry in China.
  • Participation in joint scientific research sea voyages. Conducting joint sea expeditions will allow scientists from Russia and China to jointly study marine resources, assess their condition and develop measures for their rational use.
In the spring of this year, the director of VNIRO, together with his deputies and heads of branches, visited the cities of Beijing, Zhoushan and Quzhou during a working trip to the People's Republic of China. Earlier, in 2024, a VNIRO delegation visited the Chinese cities of Harbin and Qingdao. During these trips, meetings were held with the heads of leading research and educational institutions of the PRC. As a result of the negotiations, important agreements were reached on expanding cooperation, conducting joint scientific research, organizing international scientific conferences and exchanging researchers.

It is expected that the implementation of the action plan for Russian-Chinese cooperation will strengthen the scientific base of fisheries, increase the competitiveness of domestic products and create new opportunities for the development of aquaculture in Russia.
