VNIRO participated in the 38th ISO session

From July 8 to July 13, 2019, the 38th session of Section 9 of the Food Products Committee of the International Organization for Standardization took place in Milan, Italy.

Irina Igonina from the Technical Regulation Department of VNIRO participated as the head of the Russian delegation.

The meeting of the Committee, which brought together experts from 63 countries, including 10 international governmental and non-governmental organizations, considered a number of important issues related to food safety, including fishery products.

The session reviewed 28 standards.

Among the main issues submitted for consideration in the framework of this meeting, the greatest interest for the Russian Federation were the following:

- draft  standard ISO6887-3: 2017 Microbiology of the food chain. Preparation of test samples, initial suspension and decimal dilutions for microbiological examination. Part 3. Special rules for the preparation of fish and fish products. Variation 1 on sample preparation from wet marine gastropods. According to the proposals of the Russian delegation, the scope of application of this standard has expanded to other types of fish products, including frozen, salted and smoked fish products;

- ISO23036-1 draft standard. Microbiology of the food chain. Part 1. Methods for detecting AnisakidaeL3 larvae in fish and fish products. UV press method;

- draft standard ISO 23036-2. Microbiology of the food chain. Methods for detecting Anisakidae L3 larvae in fish and fish products. Part 2. Method of artificial digestion;

- draft standard ISO 15213-1. Microbiology of the food chain. Horizontal method for detecting and counting Clostridium spp. - Part 1. List of sulfite-reducing Clostridium spp. method of counting colonies;

- draft standard ISO 20796. Microbiology of the food chain. Method for the detection of Clostridium botulinum toxin in food, based on the immunological method.

The position of the Russian delegation on the above issues, approved by the Federal Agency for Fisheries, was reported at a meeting of the Committee, supported and taken into account in the final documents. Further work is planned to be carried out in the working groups of section 9 of the Food Products Committee of the International Organization for Standardization ISO / TC34 / SC9.
