VNIRO scientists continue to study coastal pollock and Pacific herring in the Pritauysky region of the Sea of Okhotsk

As part of the monitoring of industrial fishing for coastal pollock and Pacific herring in the Pritauysky district, specialists from the Magadan branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) began work on the SRTM Sea Hunter vessel, equipped with a mid-water trawl.

From August to October of this year, a long-term series of observations and scientific support for the fishing of priority objects will be continued within the North Okhotsk subzone.

“Special attention will be paid to bycatch objects of commercial fish species, the study of which in the northern part of the Sea of Okhotsk is possible only with the support of fishing organizations, in particular, VNIRO’s long-term partner in the field of fisheries research and Tikhrybkom LLC,” emphasized the head of the Magadan branch, Evgeny Metelev.

The obtained materials will be used to prepare forecasts of total allowable catches (TAC) of pollock and Pacific herring of the North Okhotsk subzone, as well as within the framework of developing recommendations for the rational exploitation of their stocks.
