VNIRO scientists have begun studying the downstream migration of young Pacific salmon in the Sakhalin Region

The survey work on studying the dynamics and conditions of downstream migration of young Pacific salmon on the northeastern coast of Sakhalin Island will be carried out from May 22 to July 7 by joint efforts of scientists from the Department of Anadromous Fish of Russia of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) and the Laboratory of Salmon Fish of the Sakhalin Branch.

The research is accompanied by measurements of the water level and the speed of the river current, as well as the air and water temperature.

The obtained data on the timing, qualitative and quantitative composition of downstream migrants will be used in preparing catch forecasts.
