The Russian side was represented by specialists from the Central, Pacific, Sakhalin, Kamchatka, and Khabarovsk branches of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO).
The Japanese participants included employees of research institutes of the Institute for Fisheries Research and Education and divisions of the Japanese Department of Fisheries.
During the meeting, participants discussed the results of joint research conducted in 2025, issues related to the stock status of key pelagic species (saury, mackerel, sardine, anchovy, squid, and pollock) and Pacific salmon, drafted plans and programs for scientific and technical cooperation for the coming years, and agreed to resume open-water research on sardines, mackerel, and saury on Japanese research vessels, which had been suspended in 2019.
Following the meeting, a protocol in Russian and Japanese was prepared and initialed by both parties. The research and materials from the scientists contribute to the work of the Russian-Japanese Joint Commission on Fisheries and the Russian-Japanese Fisheries Commission, aimed at ensuring the rational use of aquatic organisms in adjacent waters.
