Academic Council at VNIRO

On March 3, a meeting of the Academic Council was held in the Grand Assembly Hall of the Central Institute of the Russian State Research Center "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO), chaired by Kirill Kolonchin, Director and Doctor of Economics.

The main topic of discussion was a report by Vyacheslav Bizikov, Deputy Director for Research, on the implementation of fisheries research in the water bodies of the Norilo-Pyasinsky lake-river system in 2025 – the VNIRO Taimyr Expedition 2023-2025.

"The goal of this large-scale expedition was to study the current state of the habitat and food supply for the ichthyofauna of the rivers and lakes of the Norilo-Pyasinsky basin, as well as to develop, using an updated scientific base, effective technologies for restoring the fisheries value of these Arctic water bodies, including fish farming infrastructure and monitoring tools," Vyacheslav Alexandrovich noted in his report.

The research program, scheduled to run until 2053, continues to expand. A decision has already been made to extend the active phase of fieldwork: starting this year, research teams will begin a detailed study of the role of the Pyasina tributaries in fish stock reproduction. At the same time, scientists are conducting genetic studies to monitor the authenticity of juveniles during artificial stocking in the future. The first phase of data collection is planned to be completed by 2028, but specialists are already developing plans for creating fish-breeding infrastructure in the basin.

"The most important thing is to obtain conclusions on the extent of anthropogenic impact on the water bodies of the Norilo-Pyasina system. There has been damage, there has been pollution. We must understand that without a detailed study of fisheries science, without a restoration plan, without new releases, the current situation will not change dramatically," noted the director of VNIRO, summing up the report.
An additional item on the agenda was the review and approval for publication of a monograph by K.V. Kolonchin and D.E. Levashov. and V.A. Tatarnikov, "Marine Vessels for Fisheries Research in the 21st Century (2001-2025)".

This publication is based on research conducted at VNIRO over the past 25 years on the renewal of the industry's research fleet.

This monograph is of interest not only to engineers and designers developing research vessels but may also be useful to researchers in the fields of industrial fisheries, oceanography, and related disciplines. The book can be used as a resource guide for undergraduate and graduate students, and faculty members involved in the study of the World Ocean and the development of its resources.

The published materials served as the basis for the construction of the Project 17050 fishing research vessels, which are currently under construction for VNIRO.
