Autumn 2025: Water monitoring continues

Specialists from the Freshwater Fisheries Branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) successfully completed a series of field trips to conduct regular environmental monitoring of aquatic resources.

Throughout the expedition, staff from the Aquatic Biological Resources Department conducted research at the Vazuzskoye, Rybinskoye, and Ivankovskoye Reservoirs, as well as the Moscow Canal.

Ichthyological, hydrobiological, hydrochemical, and bacteriological surveys were conducted. The purpose of the expeditions was to collect water and bottom sediment samples, study the composition of phytoplankton and zooplankton, and assess fish species diversity and population density.

Such comprehensive studies are conducted to assess the condition of water bodies, predict changes, and study water quality.

The main goal of the monitoring is to create a reliable database for subsequent diagnostics and the development of measures for the management and restoration of aquatic bioresources. The collection and laboratory processing of samples will allow specialists to determine trends in fish abundance and identify potential threats to ecosystems.
