Autumn monitoring: hundreds of kilometers for the health of rivers

Specialists of the Laboratory of Aquatic Biological Resources of the branch for Freshwater Fisheries of the National Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) conducted a series of autumn expeditions within the framework of the state assignment. From October 5 to October 16, the staff traveled hundreds of kilometers to assess the condition of key reservoirs in Central Russia.

Scientists have focused on the Tsna River in the Tambov Region, the Goretovka River in the Moscow Region, the Dnieper River and the Yauza Reservoir in the Smolensk Region, as well as the Moskva River in the capital. The specialists carried out a full range of studies at each site: hydrological, hydrobiological, hydrochemical and toxicological samples were taken, and control fishing was carried out.

All the collected samples and primary data have already been transferred to the laboratory. Their detailed analysis will help to form an objective picture of the state of the rivers in the autumn period.

These data are not just accounting figures: they serve as a reliable support for the control of water resources, on which both industrial fishing and recreational fishing opportunities depend.
