Contribution to nature: release of juveniles into the First Lake

On April 25, a significant ecological holiday was held in the village of the Moscow region - Zvezdny Gorodok on the regional clean-up day - the release of juvenile carp and white Amur into the First Lake.

Carp and white amur are the so—called "sanitaries" of reservoirs. They effectively fight overgrowth by eating excess aquatic vegetation and algae. This makes the water cleaner and the ecosystem of the lake more stable. Regular stocking with such species helps to restore fish productivity and improve water quality, which is especially important for small freshwater lakes exposed to anthropogenic influences.

Artur Archibasov, Chief Specialist of the Laboratory of Sturgeon Breeding and Acclimatization of the Freshwater Fisheries Branch, took part in the action on behalf of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO). The joint efforts of scientists, the administration and concerned residents are a real contribution to the conservation of nature and the development of ecological culture.

Zvezdny Gorodok is known as an astronaut training center, but it also pays great attention to environmental and landscaping issues. The harvesting campaign is another example of how modern scientific approaches and civic initiative help make the environment cleaner and richer.
