Cooperation of scientific organizations: meeting of young scientists of VNIRO and STC UP RAS

On June 9, a meeting of young scientists from VNIRO and the Scientific and Technological Center for Unique Instrument Engineering of the Russian Academy of Sciences (STC UP RAS) took place at the site of the Central Institute of the Scientific Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO).

In the round table format, young researchers from the two institutes got to know each other and talked about the scientific developments they are engaged in.

Young specialists of the Scientific and Technical Center of the UP RAS told about the devices and methods created at the center for various fields — from industry to agriculture. One of the most prominent topics for discussion was the development of noninvasive monitoring of the cardiovascular system of fish in the early stages of development. As the young scientists noted, this approach makes it possible to effectively control the normal development of aquatic organisms and carry out high-quality breeding stock selection.

The guests from the Scientific and Technical Center of the UP RAS were given a tour of the history of the institute and told about the work carried out by VNIRO in the framework of fisheries research.

The Department of quality of fish food products introduced young scientists of the Scientific Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences to scientific directions on methodological support of quality control of fish food products using modern spectrometric and chromatographic methods, solving the problem of falsification. We paid special attention to the results of research work on the implementation of the action plan within the framework of the roadmap approved on July 1, 2024. Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Patrushev D.N., aimed at achieving the national consumption rate of 28 kg per person by 2030. A modern instrument base is presented. A proposal has been made to continue previously initiated research on the use of hyperspectral imaging techniques to develop methods for assessing the quality of fish raw materials.

VNIRO staff spoke about applied research of compound feeds and scientific support of production, and also presented current methods for a comprehensive assessment of the nutritional value and effectiveness of fish use of compound feeds and feed components.

In the Department of Genetics and Genomic Breeding, the staff of the Scientific Research Center of the UP RAS got acquainted with the main molecular methods used in the fisheries industry. The guests were particularly interested in the demonstration of equipment used for genomic editing, as well as carps with knockout genes that lead to an increase in the rate of muscle growth and the absence of intermuscular bones.

The meeting was held in a productive and friendly atmosphere. The participants agreed on further cooperation and discussion of joint projects at the interface of instrument engineering and fisheries science.
