Ilya Shestakov, Head of Rosrybolovstvo, and Kirill Kolonchin, Doctor of Economics, Director of the Scientific Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO), addressed the youth with stories about the history of the Russian fishing industry and science. Alexey Baitalyuk, Deputy Director and Head of the Pacific Branch of VNIRO, highlighted the prospects for novice specialists, including within the framework of the Research Internship project. This initiative connects education, science and the navy: students can put knowledge into practice, learn relevant techniques right on board a research vessel and assess how close they are to working at sea.
A documentary about A. A. Ishkov was shown at the meeting, about a man who brought the country's fisheries complex to the world level, strengthened science, expanded the raw material base, established the processing of products at sea and laid the foundations of international diplomacy in the field of oceanic fisheries.
Honored Worker of the Russian Fisheries, Professor Vyacheslav Zilanov— Deputy to A. A. Ishkov, presented his book "Minister Alexander Ishkov. On the 120th anniversary of his birth" (2025). The publication brings to life the testimonies of contemporaries thanks to archival documents and photographs. The author called on young people to learn from Ishkov's dedication, courage and statesmanship.
Students, many of whom are already familiar with the fishing industry, actively asked questions about changes in the motivation of specialists, new processing technologies, transfer of experience and prospects for graduates of the Dalrybvtuz. Such an open dialogue between generations is an important step in the formation of professional values and the preservation of industry knowledge.
