Exploration of Lake Phowo

Specialists from the Upper Volga Department of the Freshwater Fisheries Branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) have completed an expedition to Lake Pkhovo in the Tver Region. For five days, the scientists conducted scientific observations and research on the lake's ecosystem.

Lake Pkhovo is known for its picturesque natural beauty and diverse aquatic fauna, making it an attractive recreation and fishing destination.

The expedition's goal was to collect up-to-date information on the state of the ichthyofauna and food supply. Specifically, the specialists studied fish abundance and distribution and assessed habitat quality, including the study of chironomid larvae.

This study collected fish samples for species biology analysis and assessed the composition and population density of chironomid larvae, which are an important link in the lake's food chain. The data obtained will be used for further monitoring of the lake's ecological status and developing measures to maintain its natural potential.
