Fishing for science - 2026

On May 20, the Atlantic Branch of the SSC RF "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) held the first (regional) stage of the Amateur Fishing Championship "Fishing for Science", dedicated to the 145th anniversary of the Russian fisheries science.

This time the competition was held on the Pregola River (in Kaliningrad on the Embankment of General Karbyshev).

According to the established rules, each fisherman was allowed to use one float rod (up to 2 hooks) and/ or one spinning rod with a spinner (bait) for catching predatory fish, the fishing time was limited to two hours. The event was attended by 16 people.

The head and staff of the West Baltic Territorial Administration of Rosrybolovstvo paid a friendly visit to the event, wishing successful fishing.

The participants of the competition showed maximum patience and diligence!!! Despite the hot spring day, unsuitable for "fish biting", fishing nevertheless took place. As a result, 10 fish specimens with a total weight of almost 700 g were caught...

The undisputed winner in two categories at once – the biggest catch and the biggest fish – was Roman Makhin, head of the technical support group. The winners, who took 2nd and 3rd places, were Valery Lukyanenkov and Alexander Arkhipov.

The winners were awarded with commemorative badges, all participants of the competition were awarded with diplomas, but most importantly, they received a boost of cheerfulness, fun, and good mood!
