In August, specialists from the Northern Branch of the SSC RF "All—Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) conducted a series of flight missions along the southern coast of Bolshoy Solovetsky Island - the work was carried out during periods of low water in order to record the condition of the coastal thickets in as much detail as possible.
The scientists determined the species composition, biomass and morphometric characteristics of fucoids, and also collected data on the distribution of their thickets in the southern part of the coast.
Based on the collected material, orthophotoplans and maps of thickets will be created — this will make it possible to accurately assess the reserves of fucus algae in the region.
