In 2026, the chirnel hybrid will undergo experimental cultivation. The larvae have already been deposited in model drainless reservoirs – fish farming areas of the Armizonsky and Kazansky districts of the Tyumen region.
A hybrid of chira and nelma in the conditions of pasture aquaculture will be tested for the first time in Western Siberia. Scientists will conduct comprehensive studies to identify its product characteristics. Throughout the entire season of fish growth and development, specialists will regularly perform control catches, hydrochemical analysis of lake water and assessment of the feed base.
After the industrial harvest in the fall of 2026, scientists will analyze the linear and weight growth rates, survival rates, and industrial return coefficients of the new hybrid. Pelchir, widely used by fish farming organizations, will serve as an object of comparison.
The cultivation of hybrids of whitefish species is a promising area for the effective use of the vast lake fund of Western Siberia and the Urals. The experimental stocking of the chirnel is a continuation of the extensive scientific work of scientists of the Tyumen branch of VNIRO on the selection of more productive pasture aquaculture facilities. At the first stage, in 2022, 36 variants of crosses were carried out and the most promising hybrids were selected. Their systematic implementation is currently underway.
In 2024, the pelnel hybrid was successfully tested, its productivity turned out to be 30-40% higher than that of the popular pelchir. Such high rates have not been ignored by the fishing industry – today pelnel is already actively grown in the lakes of the Tyumen region.
Expanding the range of aquaculture facilities through the use of productive whitefish hybrids will ensure an increase in commercial fish production in the region and in the country as a whole.
