Kamchatka, trials and discoveries: VNIRO at the Ecoforum

From June 22 to July 8, the V All-Russian Youth Environmental Forum "Ecosystem. A protected area."
 
Scientists of the Kamchatka branch of the Scientific Research Center of the Russian Federation "All—Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) acted as experts at the youth and children's shifts and organized three educational platforms - hydrochemical, hydrobiological and ichthyological.
 
In practice, at Lake Mikizha, the children learned how to take samples, collect plankton, conduct training exercises and analyze water, including determining the content of oxygen, nitrites, ammonium and phosphates. In the laboratory, schoolchildren and students analyzed samples of juvenile Pacific salmon, studied freshwater plankton and microalgae, mastered biological analysis techniques and learned about the life cycle of salmon and the importance of ichthyological research.
 
VNIRO experts noted the keen interest of the participants: the guys actively worked with samples and asked many questions about fisheries science and future research.
