In this publication, a team of scientists from the Azov-Black Sea branch of the Russian State Research Center "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) presented scenarios for the development of the Sea of Azov's fisheries potential in the context of current climate transformations and dynamic changes in its ecosystem.
The development pathways for the Sea of Azov's fisheries potential presented in this monograph aim to provide reliable benchmarks for the possible development of biological productivity, the composition, and volume of fisheries resources, depending on changes in sea salinity, and the prospects for aquaculture development through 2040.
The proposed measures for developing the Sea of Azov's fisheries potential formed the basis of the state systemic development plan for the region—the Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Azov Region until 2040. This plan was prepared under the direct instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives for the Promotion of New Projects and the VEB Institute and adopted by presidential instruction on June 1, 2024. The Action Plan for implementing this Strategy is currently in its final stages. The Azov-Black Sea Branch of VNIRO is actively involved in implementing these measures.
This monograph will be of interest not only to specialists in fisheries management but also to a wide range of researchers studying biology, ecology, fisheries, and aquaculture.
