Monitoring of Nelma and Tugun in Turukhansk region

Specialists of the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Scientific Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) summed up the results of a comprehensive expedition in the Turukhansky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

Scientists have monitored the populations of nelma and tugun in the lower reaches of the Yenisei, valuable fish species of important commercial and ecological importance for the region. As part of the research, the ichthyofauna was also examined and the hydrobiological parameters of a number of tributaries of the Yenisei and Podkamennaya Tunguska were assessed: experts recorded key habitat parameters, including water temperature, dissolved oxygen content and other characteristics affecting the state of fish stocks.

During the fieldwork, the researchers collected ichthyological material and performed a complete biological analysis of the caught fish, including determining the age, size and weight, sex ratio, and reproductive system status of the individuals. At the same time, hydrobiological samples were taken to assess the food supply and the general ecological situation in the reservoirs.

The results obtained will form the basis for forecasting the total allowable catches of nelma and tugun — this will help to more effectively regulate fishing and preserve the valuable aquatic biological resources of the Yenisei River. The data will also be used to adjust measures to protect rare and vulnerable populations and plan further scientific observations in the region.
