Monitoring the Volga in autumn

In the second ten days of December, specialists from the Middle Volga branch of the Russian State Research Center "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) conducted the final stage of research in the Volga River basin, in the lower reaches of the Volga Hydroelectric Power Station dam, as part of their resource research plan for the current year.

During the fieldwork, ichthyological material was collected using fixed and drift nets, as well as some physical and chemical parameters of the water.

The data obtained characterize the status of individual fish populations that form aggregations near river hydroelectric facilities during the pre-winter period and will also be used for annual assessment and forecasting of changes in the biological status, abundance, and distribution of aquatic bioresources and their habitats under the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors.
