More than 2 million Russian sturgeon fry released into the Volga

Specialists of the Srednevolzhsky branch of the SSC RF "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) participate in the Volga Commission‑The Caspian Territorial Administration of Rosrybolovstvo — they control the artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources.

VNIRO scientists at the Volgograd Sturgeon Hatchery take into account the juveniles in the pools and monitor their release into the natural environment. The Russian sturgeon is a migratory species of the Volga—Caspian basin: juveniles migrate to the Caspian Sea, where they live until maturity, and adult fish then ascend the Volga to spawn.

From July to August, more than 2 million Russian sturgeon fry were released into the river.
