The authors dedicated it to the memory of Doctor of Biological Sciences V.N. Kazachenko (1940-2024). In this work, they compiled an annotated list of parasitic copepods of southern Sakhalin and attempted to examine them from an ecological perspective.
The goal of the scientists' long-term research was to describe the fauna of parasitic copepods from fishes of southern Sakhalin and, using these as examples, to study several aspects of host-parasite relationships.
This specialized publication provides an extensive physical and geographical description of the study area (reservoirs and water bodies, rivers, lakes, and lagoons). This book presents a systematic review of parasitic copepods in fishes from southern Sakhalin, describes patterns of change in the parasitic copepod fauna of fishes during migration, and presents detailed information obtained from long-term field expeditions.
The information on parasitic copepods published in this book can be used in courses on ecology, zoology, and parasitology.
Data on the species composition and impact of parasitic copepods on fishes can be used in planning water resource management, introducing new fish species, and in mariculture. The results of studies on the epizootic role of ergasilids in the ecosystem of Lake Tunaycha can be used to develop disease prevention measures in the climatic conditions of southern Sakhalin.
