Valery Pronin, Senior Engineer of the Scientific Expedition Department of the Polar Branch of the Russian State Research Center "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO), conducted research on the fishing vessel AK-5440 "Norwegian Sea" from August 26 to October 18, 2025.

The research was conducted in the Greenland halibut and other bottom fish fisheries near the Svalbard archipelago.

The expedition was organized to collect data on the distribution and biological status of Greenland halibut and other bottom fish, the status of the fishery's raw material base, and the patterns of formation of fish aggregations of varying densities depending on environmental conditions in the autumn of 2025.

During the mission, the vessel completed 144 bottom trawls, of which a detailed analysis of the catches was conducted in 49 trawls. A total of 20,939 fish were measured. A field analysis of the diet of 1,355 fish was conducted, and 681 samples were taken for age analysis.

The results will be used to refine the stock status and TAC of Greenland halibut and other bottom fishes and to develop forecasts of varying lead times.
